Robin Hood W, top show jumper ridden by Ben Maher

When Ben Maher asked Mike and Emma Phillips of Quainton Stud to invest in Robin Hood W in spring 2008, his enthusiasm about the then 10-year-old gelding was enough to convince them this was a top horse.

Robin was then owned by rider/producer Lara Abraham, and Ben was just one of a number of riders who had expressed an interest in the horse. However, Lara was determined to keep hold of the son of Animo, whom she’d owned since a four-year old, until a change in her personal circumstances meant she felt she could not do Robin’s potential justice.

Ben and the Phillipses bought Robin in June 2008 and the new partnership immediately started performing on the international circuit with major wins and placings.

In December 2008, Robin secured Olympia’s leading rider award for Ben after the pair were runners-up in the final day’s grand prix. Ben is also in a qualifying place on the Western European League for this year’s World Cup final in Las Vegas in April 2009, thanks to Robin’s strong performance in qualifiers.
