New SJ series for four-year-olds

  • The BSJA has launched a new Style & Performance showcase for four-year-old show jumpers

The series, with a final at the BSJA Festival of Show Jumping, begins in May and will consist of one round over eight fences not against the clock.

Supported by Dengie Horse Feeds, the classes will be judged on the horse’s way of going, technique over each fence, plus their balance, confidence and calmness around the course.

The 1m maximum height course will include two doubles – a single stride and one two-strides – plus two related distances. Horses must be ridden in snaffle bridles.

Each horse can receive up to 10 marks for each jumping effort, with a further 50 marks available for the horse’s way of going. The two judges’ marks will then be added together for a final score out of 300 points.

The top three horses, which have not already qualified will go forward to the final.

“We are delighted to be associated with this new class which is set to become a showcase for well-produced quality young horses,” said Amanda Renouard, marketing manager for Dengie Horse Feeds.
