Luck for Luckett at Windsor

  • Geoff Luckett won the easibed 1.40m Open Championship at Royal Windsor Horse Show this morning. Partnering Quo Vadis, Luckett cleared the jump off course more than two seconds faster than joint runners up Paul Cargo and Mark Armstrong. John Whitaker took fourth place with young rider Charlotte Platt in fifth.

Two riders rarely finish within 100th of a second of each other but Paul Cargo managed to replicate Mark’s Armstrong’s 31.77 sec trailblazing time exactly. The pair remained in equal first position as John Whitaker and the relatively inexperienced Nepos Van Limbo finished just under a second slower and Tim Stockdale and Una punched out the second to last fence.

Robert Smith, William Funnell and Peter Charles all jumped steady clears but did nothing threaten the equal leaders. But as the class drew to a close, Geoff Luckett tore the time apart, completing in just 29.38 sec and steaming into first position.

Young rider Charlotte Platt, a member of the World Class Start Show Jumping Squad 2006, was the only other rider to contest Luckett’s time. An exceptional round saw the Surrey based youngster completing clear but her 33.0 sec time was only good enough for fifth position.
