John Whitaker back in Nations Cup team

  • Just four months after suffering a life threatening brain haemorrhage, John Whitaker has been selected for Great Britain’s Nations Cup team at La Baule next month.

John recentlymade a winning return to competitive jumping at Arena UK, and he followed that up with international success riding Virtual Village Randi and Ephesia, who each won classes in France last week.

“The past four months have been anything but normal, so it’s great to get back into action,” said John. “We’ve tested the water both at home and abroad, the horses are going well and I feel good, so I think we are ready”.

Speaking for the BSJA, press and marketing officer Jacky Knightley said: “The British Show Jumping Association are delighted that John is back, not only competing, but in winning form with a dual success recently at Fontainebleau. John’s selection with VV Calvaro FCS for the Nations Cup at La Baule is testament to his marvellous recovery, and we wish him and the team every success”.

En route to La Baule, John will be competing Steps Helsinci and Ephesia at Mauberge this weekend (28-29 April).
