Guy Williams, British showjumper

Guy was born on 11 July 1971 and now lives in Kent.

He began riding at a very young age with support from his parents, and was successful on ponies before graduating to young rider classes, where he represented Britain at the European championships.

Having spent a year in America riding for Margie Goldstein as a young professional, Guy returned home and set up his own yard near Canterbury, where he now lives with his partner Rebecca and their two children Maisie and George.

Guy first made his mark at the highest level when he won the grand prix and leading showjumper of the year title at HOYS in 2003 riding Loro Piana Hamlet, a horse sold to him by his mentor Peter Charles.

Since then he has demonstrated his considerable talent in competitions around the world, including a number of nations cup appearances.

Having finished in the top five in the Hickstead Derby on Skip Two Ramiro (pictured) four years in succession, Guy was determined to claim the title in 2010.

Having built a Devils Dyke at home to practise over, the partnership produced two outstanding clear rounds to beat Tim Fletcher in the two-horse jump off.

Skip Two Ramiro is probably Guy’s best known equine partner and has a massive fan base of his own.

Guy is well known as being a great rider against the clock and has won the Hickstead Speed Derby three times on Be Precise and finished second three times on Harlem.

He has also had puissance and six-bar success with his attractive grey Richi Rich III and Una II.

Guy has also been enjoying considerable success with Torinto Van De Middelstede, who won the Mechlelen grand prix in 2010 and helped the British team to success in the nations cup competition in Abu Dhabi in February.

And he has a number of talented younger horses coming through, including Duhkan, who stepped up to 1.45m classes in early 2010.
