European show jumping champions received recognition at the 2001 Renault Annual Sports Awards
The Irish show jumping team – Kevin Babington, Peter Charles, Jessica Kurten and Dermott Lennon – received the team award at the 2001 Renault Annual Sports Awards, held at the Burlington Hotel, Dublin earlier this week. Also honoured was the team’s chef d’equipe Tommmy Wade.
The award was presented in recognition of the team’s victory on 29 June, in the senior European Show Jumping Championships at Arnhem in The Netherlands. It was the first time that four Irish riders have won the team gold medal.
Irish show jumpers have won a record number of Nations Cups, Grands Prix and other top international competitions during the past two years.
As one of the top show jumping nations in the world, Ireland’s four members have also enjoyed success as individuals at international level for Ireland.
