Competitors at this year’s Royal Windsor Horse Show (11-14 May) will be riding on some of the best turf ever laid. The Copper Horse Arena has been undergoing extensive landscaping, bringing the turf up to the standard of the pitch at Chelsea Football Club, London.
Renowned showing competitor Robert Walker said: “I’ve walked about in the arena and it looks great. If my horses go half as well as Frank Lampard does on the same surface I’m going to take some beating this year!” After the show finished in May 2005, the Copper Horse Arena’s restoration programme began with Kestral Ltd, the company behind turf management at Chelsea Football Club, managing the project.
Show Director, Simon Brooks-Ward said: “Prior to moving the showground to its new site in 2005, the Copper Horse Arena was part of a pea crop and it quickly became apparent during the show in 2005 that despite the immense effort that we put into the arena, the footing did need attention. Our number one priority in the last 12 months has been to invest in the very best consultants and contractors and I am confident that competitors will now be riding on some of the most manicured show turf in the country.”
Schedules for the 2006 show will be out shortly. Competitors at the 2005 show will be sent a schedule automatically.
