  • The final qualifier for the 2007 Racehorse to Riding Horse Show Championship will be held at The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials (30 Aug-2 Sep).

Taking place on Sunday, 2 September, the qualifier is organised by Ponies (UK) in conjunction with the Ponies (UK) Burghley Event Pony class and is sponsored by South Essex Insurance Brokers (SEIB).

In its second year, the Racehorse to Riding Horse Show Championship series was devised to support and encourage the re-education of racehorses taken out of racing for social riding, affiliated or unaffiliated competition.

The competition is supported by the charity, Retraining of Racehorses (RoR), and is open to Thoroughbred ex-racehorses who do not need to have raced but do need to have been in training.

SEIB marketing manager, Nicolina Mackenzie said: “Thousands of horses come out of training each year, and this class illustrates how, with time and patience, these horses can be reschooled to compete successfully in other spheres.”

The competition will include hunters, hacks and riding horses and the format of judging will be as for a riding horse but the best of type will win.

The Racehorse to Riding Horse Show Championship will be held at the Horse of the Year Show (3-7 Oct).
