Rockstar is king of show

  • The East of England’s 2006 hunter champion is Rockstar, a 17.2hh gelding. Ridden by Louise Bell, Rockstar started the day with a win in the heavyweight hunter class, open to horses capable of carrying over 14 stone and was later crowned overall hunter champion. Jack the Lad, owned by W Hamilton-Taylor and ridden by Nigel Oliver, took the reserve champion position.

Rockstar, a six-year-old grey gelding by Cruising, was homebred by Bell. He lives at home with his half-brother and half-sister. “He’s very soppy,” Bell told HHO, “But he’s great out hunting – he hunted with the Warwickshire last season.”

Today’s win was Rockstar’s first supreme championship and has qualified him for the Horse of the Year Show – for a third time this season.

Bell is now aiming Rockstar at the The Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead later this summer before focusing his attention on Working Hunter classes next year.
