Great news for Welsh enthusiasts


  • The first ever National Welsh Pony and Cob and Part-bred Championship Show will be held at the Shropshire and West Midland showground, Shrewsbury, on 3 August.

    In addition to 10 in-hand classes each for sections A, B, C, D and Welsh part-bred horses and ponies, there will be riding, driving and dressage – 108 classes in all.

    The highlight will be the New London Gold Supreme In-Hand Championship with a £250 first prize for each of the five sections, sponsored by Kath and Angelo Panayiotou of the Kallistalodge Stud, Bucks.

    To qualify, animals will have been champions or reserves at a show nominated by each of the 30 Welsh Pony and Cob Associations.

    Strong entries for Royal Welsh

    In-hand horse and pony entries for the Royal Welsh Show (21-24 July) are up on last year’s total of 3,001 with 3,420 so far.

    Welsh section A entries have reached an all-time record number of 636.

    The shows includes HOYS qualifiers in six categories: ridden hunters (84 entries), working hunters (38), show ponies (49), ridden M&Ms (213), show hunter ponies (63) and private driving (28).
