Top-class yearlings go under the hammer at this year’s Tattersalls Houghton yearling sale

The 1999 Houghton yearling sale has so far produced no less than eight individual Group1 winners. This year the sale runs from Tuesday 2 October to Thursday 4 October and the organisers are confident that this year will be no exception.

Last year saw a record price of 3.4 million guineas paid for a Sadlers Wells colt. Other yearlings previously sold at this sale are Milan who fetched 650,000 guineas and Mozart, who made 340,000 guineas.

Other Group 1 winners from the 1999 Houghton cost as little as 42,000 guineas and since 1990 the Houghton has produced no less than 97 individual Group winners purchased for 80,000 guineas or less.

This year sees 190 entries and bidders are expected from all over Britain and the world. The sale can be viewed online at over all three days.
