Kids club for young racegoers
Goodwood has launched the GG club to encourage the younger generation to become racing enthusiasts
Goodwood Racecourse has launched racing club for 10- to 16-year-olds as part of its 200th anniversary celebrations.
The GG Club intends to introduce young racegoers to the fun and non-betting excitement of racing. Club members will have exclusive behind-the-scenes access to jockeys, trainers and owners, as well asenjoying regular social events, including an annual party at the racecourse.
“Under-17s have always been admitted free to Goodwood”, explains general manager Rod Fabricius, “but most young people only come if they have parents who are interested in racing.
“We want to attract young people for their own sake.”
Membership of the club is limited to 200 people and costs £25 each, with discounts for families. Club members will receive quarterly newsletters with quizzes and giveaways, plus a members cap and badge.
“The GG club received lots of interest when we launched at our family day last weekend,” said Goodwood spokesperson Lyndi Norton. “The GG club’s president, former top flat jockey John Reid organised a number of autograph signing opportunities with jockeys for the club’s first members.
