  • Spectators flocked to Stratford racecourse for the 50th anniversary running of the Pertemps Cup Champion Hunters’ Chase for the Horse & Hound Cup on Saturday 24 May.

Rhys Flint, 17, riding the veteran chaser Harlov (pictured) prised victory from the grasp of former Cheltenham Gold Cup second Take The Stand to collect the £24,000 first prize.

“I’ve been lucky to have had a good point season and this has just topped it off. It’s been absolutely brilliant,” said Rhys, gaining his fifth and easily most significant success on a proper racecourse.

“Coming round the home bend, I didn’t know if they would stop in front, but I knew my horse would plug on.”
