  • Florida Pearl is crowned top three-mile chaser in training ahead of Best Mate

Florida Pearl, winner of the King George V1 Chase at Kempton, has been rated the best three-mile chaser intraining – ahead of Cheltenham Gold Cup hero, Best Mate.

The Anglo-Irish National Hunt Chasing Classifications were published this week placing Florida Pearl at the head of the three-mile category with a figure of 171, 1lb above Best Mate.

Best Mate is on top of the two-and-a-half mile category with a rating of 169. Flagship Uberalles, winner of the Queen Mother Champion Chase, was given the same mark as the outstanding two-miler.

Official handicapper Phil Smith said: “We believe the best performance last season was by Florida Pearl in the King George. But we also consider Best Mate a remarkably consistent horse who is likely to improve next season.”
