  • AP McCoy hobnobbed with pop stars at Buckingham Palace today as he received his OBE from The Queen.

The 15-time champion Jump jockey rubbed shoulders with Eurythmics star Annie Lennox and former member of Fairport Convention Richard Thompson to receive his award in the ballroom of the palace.

AP was joined by his wife Chantelle and three-year-old daughter Eve.

He told the press: “It’s an amazing honour and something that I’m very proud of — this has been a pretty special time for me which will be difficult to replicate.”

AP, who won his first Grand National earlier this year and was last year’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year, spoke to the Queen about their shared love of racing and her Derby runner Carlton House.

“She’s pretty knowledgeable on her racing so it made it quite easy for me,” he told the BBC.
