Young showjumping stars to battle it out at Olympia


  • Some of the brightest young names in showjumping are set to compete at Olympia Horse Show this weekend.

    The riders will compete in the Team Murka and World Class Programme Under-23 British Championship at the London International Horse Show, Olympia on Saturday, 18 December.

    Sixteen combinations qualified for the final based on points earned at three qualifying competitions. Harriet Nuttall currently tops the league points table after winning the final qualifying competition at Addington and finishing fifth at Aintree, while Abbie Squires, Tim Page and George Whitaker lie second and equal third respectively.

    These qualifiers will be joined by six combinations from the World Class programme, who are eligible for team selection. Two riders have also been given wild cards, making a total of 24 starters in this class, which has a £10,000 prize-fund.

    A style prize is also up for grabs in the final, judged during the first round of the competition by two international showjumping riders, with the winner receiving a voucher to the value of £1,500 towards a saddle.

    World Class Performance director Will Connell said: “I am delighted that Team Murka is associated with the U23 British Championship. I know they are committed to committed to pursuing excellence in showjumping and have a keen awareness to identify and encourage talented athletes, which is the philosophy of the World Class Programme.”
