Welsh Pony and Cob Society judge to be sentenced for animal cruelty


  • Welsh Pony and Cob Society judge Monica Hope Hewitt and her daughter Monica May Hewitt are due to be sentenced for cruelty to horses on Friday, 27 February.

    Mrs Hewitt, 84, of Squashley Bank, Roston, Derbyshire, has admitted causing unnecessary suffering to and failing to meet the needs of 31 horses and four dogs.

    Her daughter, 56, of Hollington Road, Rocester, Staffordshire, who is a member of the Welsh Pony and Cob Society, pleaded guilty to the same charges relating to 15 of the horses.

    The charges are being brought by the RSPCA.

    They both pleaded guilty at Derby Magistrates Court on 28 January and will be sentenced in the same court.
