Top team chaser Perry’s Pearl dies

  • Top team chaser Perry’s Pearl has been put down due to the joint problem that forced his retirement earlier this year.

The 15-year-old gelding had a glorious team chasing career spanning 11 years. He was a member of three national championship-winning squads and won many hunt races. He was retired in the summer with an arthritic fetlock (news, 12 July).

Owner Yvonne Goss told H&H: “I decided last week that I should have him put down. He wasn’t coping with the colder weather and his legs were shaking.

“There were a few tears — I’ve had him since he was a yearling.”

Yvonne has been given two rides for this season and has a six-year-old just out of training to work on.
