Top Irish riders honoured

  • Peter Charles is leading Irish show jumper for the third time

Hampshire-based Irish rider Peter Charles has won the Irish Field Trophy for the leading show jumper of 2001.

This is the third time that Peter, who won last year’s Hickstead Derby and was on the gold medal-winning European Championship team, has taken this accolade.

The dressage award has gone for the second year in succession to German-based Anna Merveldt-Steffens, who was 14th in the European Championships.

Sarah Ennis, winner of the Scarvagh House three-star on Killosery Katriona, takes the senior event rider award, while Philippa Peters, winner of four European junior medals – two individual silvers and two team bronzes – is the leading young event rider.

Michael Kearins, individual bronze medallist at the junior European Championships on Tim Stockdale’s former ride, Aventurine, is the leading young show jumper.
