The Cantering Canon leads the 14th annual Horseman’s Sunday Service

  • The ‘Cantering Canon’ will lead the 14th annual Horseman’s Sunday Service in Lancashire next month.

Canon Godfrey Hirst — known locally as the Cantering Canon for his love of horses — will lead a procession around Wrea Green, Preston on 5 October, riding his horse Amazing Grace III.

He will be joined by riders of all disciplines including members of the northern side-saddle group.

Canon Hirst will preach from the back of Amazing Grace and bless each horse individually, before giving each rider a commemorative rosette.

A collection will be donated to World Horse Welfare.
