Teenager to ride 300 miles for local horse charity

  • A Welsh teenager is planning a 300 mile sponsored ride from north to south Wales in August to help raise funds for Lluest Horse and Pony Trust in Llanddeusant.

Sixteen-year-old Bethan Matthews will ride her pony Susie for the entire ride, which starts in Prestatyn on 13 August.

She hopes to complete the challenge in three weeks.

Bethan said: “I’ve been volunteering at Lluest since 2008 and have seen horses and ponies who’ve suffered neglect and cruelty develop into confident, healthy and happy animals before finding new homes.”

Bethan is looking for other horseriders to join her each day and needs offers of places for her and Susie to rest each night.

“I’ve already received some kind offers to stay along the way but I’m still looking for accomodation in Llanferres Mashfaen, Llanwyddyn, Dylife, Llangurig and New Radnor.

“If anyone can spare a room and a stable or field in those locations please, please get in touch,” she said.

The Trust is holding a mountain trail ride and dog walk on 10 July, where supporters can meet Bethan and Susie and raise funds for the charity.

“Bethan is such a fantastic volunteer so we wanted to do our bit towards her ride, ” said Emma Kurrels, manager at Lluest Horse and Pony Trust.
