Perfect pair claim MGA world title
A newly married couple took the senior title at last weekend’s World Mounted Games Pairs Championship
Mounted games riders from eight countries travelled to Newark Showground, Notts last weekend (28-29 September) for the 11th World Mounted Games Pairs Championship.
A total of 240 riders from Sweden, Belgium, France, England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland took part in the event, with British riders claiming victory in all three classes.
The newly married West Sussex pair of Christian and Felicity Hotson Jones won the open title, one point ahead of Elaine Trevor Jones and Helen Green. Christian was a member of the Welsh team which won the World Team Championship at Fontwell in July, while Felicty won the Midland Individual Championships earlier this year.
“Christian and Felicity met through MGA GB and are a pair of considerable talent and ability,” said MGA GB executive officer Mary Worth.
Hannah Hopkins (Wales) and Lester Brown (England) took the under 17 title, with a five points advantage over Hannah’s sisters Natasha and Keri. Hannah, who finished third in the under 15 World Individual competition, and Lester dominated the competition finishing the qualifying session with the highest score.
In the under 12 section the English pair of Shayla McNulty and Chloe Golding finished 10 points ahead to take the title. Shayla is the current under 12 world individual champion and Chloe took the bronze medal in the same competition.

The final MGA competition of the year will see nine teams of under 12s competing fin the Mini Championships at Shrewsbury on 5-6 October.
