As owners worry about their horses being plagued by flies in the warmer weather, now is the ideal time for tack shops and feed merchants to check their stock of spray-on and in-feed fly repelling products.
A new entry to the anti-fly feed supplement market is Fly Formula from Feedmark, which is designed to reduce irritation from flies and midges.
The product is added to the feed once a day.
“When ingested on a daily basis the aroma of the herbs pass through the skin and create a protective shield that helps to repel flies,” said a spokeman.
The supplement contains garlic, peppermint, rosemary, lemon peel, spearmint, chamomile, fenugreek and nettle leaf.
“We knew the ingredients individually helped deter flies but our nutritionists worked on a new formula to repel flies, while helping skin and coat condition,” added the spokesman.
“My horse is black and gets pestered constantly but this really keeps them off him.”
Fly Formula costs £29.99 for 3kg (63 days) or £52.99 for 6kg (127 days).
