Moreton Hall gutted by fire but stable yard is unaffected

  • A fire has gutted a grade II-listed mansion used as a campus by Moreton Morrell Agricultural College, Warwickshire.

The fire broke out at about 3.45pm on Thursday, 20 March and was attended by 16 fire engines.

A spokesman from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue said: “As yet we do not know the cause of the fire.”

It is thought that the majority of the students occupying the house had already left for the Easter weekend.

The college, which hosts Moreton Morrell Horse Trials, has outdoor and indoor arenas, as well as stabling for 100 horses.

Sue O’Leary from Moreton Morrell said: “All the animals are fine, the house is at the other end of the college to the stable yard and everything is safe.”
