Medallists on parade at Olympia

  • The London International Horse Show at Olympia will celebrate the British equestrian teams with a special parade on the evening of Thursday 18 December.

More than 40 medallists will make their way around the Olympia arena to show off their impressive wins. The numbers are staggering and are a testament to the great achievements of the British teams in 2004.

Leslie Law (pictured) — Britain’s first individual equestrian Olympic gold medallist since 1972 — will lead the parade and “will be definitely bringing his medal,” according to Olympia spokeswoman Sarah Hames. With him will be Olympic eventing team silver medallist Jeanette Brakewell, paralympic gold-medallist Deborah Criddle and another 18 gold medal winners from the Olympics, Paralympics and European competitions.

“It is hoped the Olympians will be riding their horses,” says Hames, who thinks other riders may also come with their mounts. Members of Senior, Young Rider, Junior and Pony teams from all the Olympic disciplines will also be present.

Plans for the parade are still afoot and more details will soon be available on Olympia’s website at: www.olympiahorseshow.com where a programme of the events can also be found.

Tickets for Thursday evening cost from £16 to £39. Groups discount are available for parties of 20 or more people. Tickets can be booked online at: www.olympiahorseshow.com/booking/tickets.htm or by telephone (call: 0870 733 0733).
