Mattingley fall eventer in a critical but stable condition

  • Chloe Briffa, the young eventer who was injured in a fall at Mattingley Horse Trials on Saturday, is in a medically induced coma at Southampton General Hospital.

The 17-year-old member of the Lord Leconfield Hunt branch of the Pony Club, is in a critical but stable condition, her father Mark Briffa told Horse & Hound.

Miss Briffa from Horsham in West Sussex, suffered a brain injury after falling from her horse Paddington Bear IX in the warm-up ring for the showjumping phase of the BE80T competition.

“She is making very small steps towards recovery and it is fortunate that she has not had to have an operation,” said Mr Briffa.

Paddington Bear stumbled over the practice jump and Chloe fell over his right shoulder, landing on her head.
