Ireland names majority of World Equestrian Games team

  • Ireland has named the majority of its team of riders heading for the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky this September.

Three of the five riders representing Ireland for showjumping will be Denis Lynch (Lantinus – pictured – or Nabab’s Son); Cian O’ Connor (K Club Lady) and Billy Twomey (Tinka’s Serenade or Je T’aime Flamenco).

Show jumping manager Robert Splaine will name the two last combinations — which he says will have already jumped on FEI Meydan Nations Cup teams during 2010 — at a later date.

Dressage rider Judy Reynolds will compete as an individual on Remember, with James O’ Dwyer (Orlando) and Eilish Byrne (Youri) flying the Irish flag in para-equestrian.

Ollie Galligan will represent his country in reining on Whizardre N Starlite.

No decision has yet been made over which five of six eventing combinations named in June by Team Ireland equestrian high performance manager Ginny Elliott will travel to the games.
