Gladiators combat top riders at Bolesworth

  • Gladiators will be adding some adrenalin-fuelled excitement to this year’s Bolesworth International (18-21 June).

Hunter, Jet, Lightning, Ace and Saracen will be among the Gladiators taking part in the Saturday night competition.

The athletes will compete against eight teams of contenders, including mounted international riders who will battle it out in the main arena.

Showjumper Jay Halim has confirmed he will be taking part.

James Crossley, better known as Gladiator Hunter said: “Some of the guys I have kept in touch with, and some I haven’t seen for quite a long time, so it will be great to be back together at Bolesworth Castle, the four-day schedule for the show looks incredible.”

The knockout competition will be hosted by model and polo enthusiast Jodie Kidd, alongside original Gladiators referee John Anderson.

Attendees will be treated to live music from Scouting for Girls following the Gladiator competition.

This year’s event features an impressive lineup with some of the best British stars in showjumping and dressage, including last year’s grand prix winner William Whitaker, who will bid to defend his title.

British number eight Guy Williams will also be in action, up against some of his British team mates, including Spencer Roe and Nick Skelton.

“Bolesworth International is a world-class venue, it’s one of the best shows I’ve jumped at and to have a new CSI4* in Britain is exciting,” said William Whitaker.

“The arena is unique and the surroundings are spectacular. The whole event is so welcoming, the show has left a impressive mark on the equestrian calendar.”

Thursday’s Equestrian.com intermediate dressage to music class has attracted entries from 2012 Olympic gold medallist Laura Tomlinson and European team bronze medal-winning rider Michael Eilberg.
