Giant tack store destroyed by fire

  • Robinsons’ Haydock store in Lancashire has been razed to the ground following a fire

Equestrian mail order company Robinsons’ retail shop in Haydock, Lancashire has been completely destroyed by a fire.

The fire broke out last Thursday evening (19 September) at 7.30pm at the store where Robinsons have been trading from for more than 20 years.

Thursday is late night opening and the shop was busy. Staff and customers followed evacuation procedures and the store was quickly cleared.

The flames swiftly took hold and at one point there were 12 fire pumps in attendance.

Robinson’s managing director Jim Bentham said: “The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but I am relieved that no one was hurt.

“This is obviously an unexpected blow for us, but we will recover as quickly as possible. Our mail order operation is based at St Helens and is totally unaffected by the fire.”

At this stage it is believed the cause of the fire was electrical, but this is still unconfirmed. A temporary feed store will be set up at an alternative site in time for Christmas.

A spokesperson for Robinsons said: “The target date for re-building the new store will be within the next nine to 12 months and it will be bigger and better than before.”
