Gemma Tattersall to keep ride on Arctic Soul

  • Gemma Tattersall said she is “thrilled” to have secured the ride on her 2014 Badminton hope Arctic Soul.

Last month H&H reported that Arctic Soul, who was owned by Philip and Iona Kerr, was for sale.

But now, thanks to friends and family, Gemma has formed a syndicate for the horse, which means she will continue to ride him. However, she’s still looking for more syndicate members.

“I’m so excited,” she said. “It’s a like a huge weight has been lifted. It’s been a stressful time and now I can’t wait to get out there competing again next season.”

The 10-year-old gelding was reserve for the European Championships as well as finishing 4th at Blenheim CCI 3* and 8th at Barbury CIC 3* this year. He has been with Gemma since 2011.

Gemma is now planning their campaign for next season.

“The aim is to go to Badminton,” she said. “As I wasn’t sure whether I was keeping him I don’t have any firm plans yet though. I’m also hoping for World Equestrian Games selection.”

She added that he was jumping yesterday for the first time since a holiday.

“He’s in great form,” she said. “He’s a funny horse, he can be a bit of a grump but he’s fine when he knows you. He’s not one for kisses and cuddles, but he’ll immediately perk up for a Polo. He’s a lean, mean, fighting machine — a true competition horse.”
