Five injured at Ballinasloe horse fair, Co Galway


  • Five people have been injured at the Ballinasloe annual horse fair in County Galway.

    Around 85,000 people attended the 170th horse fair which took place last week.

    A man and a woman were taken to hospital on Saturday 2 October after falling from a carriage when their horse bolted.

    Then on Sunday 3 October a 13-year-old girl fell off her horse and taken to hospital with minor injures.

    A second young woman also fell off that day, while a man was treated after being kicked by a horse.

    The fair features several equestrian competitions including the All Ireland foal competition, pony and cob lungeing classes as well horse sales and displays.

    Police are also investigating after eight portaloos were set on fire.
