The Beaufort Polo Club is hosting this year’s annual Jockeys versus Eventers charity polo match on Sunday 13 July, in aid of the Mark Davies Injured Riders Fund (MDRIF) and Racing Welfare.
Team captains for this year are former jockey, Richard Dunwoody and event rider Rodney Powell. Alan Daly, Mick Fitzgerald, and Chris Maude make up the provisional jockeys’ team, while Andrew Nicholson, Zara Philips and David Green are in the provisional event team.
Last year, the eventers scored a late equaliser to keep their unbeaten record, so the jockeys will be seeking revenge and both teams are reported to be trying to get in plenty of pre-match practice.
Proceeds from the event will go towards the MDRIF and Racing Welfare. The MDRIF is a national charity, which assists those who have sustained an injury in an equestrian-related accident where other relief is inadequate or unobtainable. It provides victims with expert medical, legal and financial advice. The charity also takes a leading role in issues relating to the welfare and safety of riders.
Racing Welfare is the only charity that offers help to the entire racing workforce. Its mission is to take care of those in need in the racing industry. This includes stud, stable and racecourse staff on whose efforts the horses depend.
There are three different ticket prices available for the day:
- £75 luncheon package – includes a car pass, afternoon drinks, champagne reception, three-course luncheon with wine, grandstand seat and afternoon tea
- £20 day membership package – includes parking, grandstand seat and afternoon tea
- £10 entry only ticket
