Eccles sisters take silver at vaulting European Championships

  • The unstoppable Eccles sisters, Joanne and Hannah, won Britain’s first pairs vaulting medal with silver at the European Championships in Stadl Paura, Austria, on Sunday (8 August).

Finishing just 0.073 penalties behind the winning pair from Austria, it was a tense final that resulted in the sisters logging their best pairs score to date.

“This is fantastic, its more than we had imagined. The scores were so close, we knew we had to be foot perfect for a chance at the medals,” said Hannah.

“This is a really good boost for the girls’ confidence ahead of the World Equestrian Games [WEG],” added British team chef d’equipe Lucy Bell.

The sisters will compete against each other as individuals in Kentucky (25 September-10 October).
