Champagne celebrations at polo Gold Cup

  • The final of the world’s premier polo tournament, the 10th Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup for the British Open Polo Championships, will be held at Cowdray Park on Sunday 18 July.

Set against the beautifully dramatic background of Cowdray House and the South Downs, the Gold Cup is firmly established as one of the highlights of the British sporting season. This year’s match will be followed by an exciting international game involving the best of the Young England Players, who will battle it out for the John Cowdray Trophy.

The series starts at the end of June, and approximately 40 matches take place during a two-week period, including a CLIC Charity Polo match in aid of children with leukaemia on Sunday 27 June.

Naomi Hancocks of Veuve Clicquot was enthusiastic about the tournament and is looking forward to the start of the series: “Veuve Clicquot is absolutely delighted to be sponsoring the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup for the tenth year running this year.

“As the world’s premier polo tournament, it is an exceptional event in Britain’s sporting calendar, and is the ultimate highlight of the season of Veuve Clicquot.”

The winning patron in this year’s Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup will take away a 1995 vintage bottle to commemorate the first year of the company’s sponsorship of the Gold Cup.

Tickets will be available from 1 May. Contact the box office (tel: 01730 814110) or book online at: www.cowdraypolo.co.uk
