Amersham rescue pony in Pony Club championships games display

  • A pony rescued from Spindles Farm in Amersham is set to take on a Pony Club mounted games team in a display at the Pony Club Championships in Derbyshire.

The charity demo will see a team of four ponies from the Burford Blue Cross centre compete against members of the South Trent Pony Club in between the action in the equitation arena on 17 August.

The 12.2hh Tabitha was rescued from Jamie Gray’s farm in 2008. Thin and suffering from dehydration and worm damage, she was cared for by the RSPCA before being recently transferred to the Burford equine welfare centre.

Tabitha will be joined by three other Blue Cross ponies, and their adult grooms, to do battle with Pony Club members Chloe Slater, Francesca Hibbins, Sophie Gates and Daisy Powell.

It’s amazing to think how far Tabitha has come since she was rescued from Spindles Farm,” said Burford Blue Cross equine manager Vicki Alford.

Going to the Pony Club championships will be a great experience for her and we hope that soon after she’ll be ready to find a loving home.”

Events include a bending race, mug race, sack race and stepping stones.

This is the first time the charity mounted games demo has been held at the championships and the teams will be performing at 11am and 3.40pm.
