Mac The Knife demonstrated all the attributes of a future dressage star when he came under the keen eye of judge Volker Brodhecker, of Germany’s Brodhecker-Burghof Stud, at Paul Hayler’s inaugural foal show last month.
The Freudenstern colt foal, owned by Mr and Mrs Stanton, won the class for colts sired by a Burgof stallion, and then stood champion over winner of the filly class, Eleanor Collins’ Bugac Flair, who is also by Freudenstern.
In the open classes Mac The Knife went on to take the colt title, but was beaten to the championship by the top class filly Diamond Spice, who is owned by Paul Hayler and Miss A Jenks.

Despite it being the first show of its kind to be held at the venue, standards were high and Brodhecker said he was “impressed” by the quality of the foals, awarding the winners eights and nines for their movement.
