Teenage eventer in intensive care after fall at Mattingley

  • A 17-year-old eventer is in a serious condition after falling at Mattingley Horse Trials on Saturday (31 July).

Chloe Briffa, of Horsham, Surrey, fell in the warm-up area before the showjumping phase of the BE80 T class.

Her horse Paddington Bear IX was unhurt and is not thought to have fallen onto Miss Briffa.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was scrambled at 2.55pm but Miss Briffa, a member of the Crawley and Horsham Hunt branch of the Pony Club, was taken to Southampton General Hospital by road ambulance.

The teenager is in the hospital’s intensive care unit.
