Security issues at Pau three-day event

  • Security at Pau Three Day Event in France was called into question last weekend (28-29 October) when two horses had their manes and tails cut.

Intruders crawled under the barrier, unnoticed by the security guard, and cut hair from the mane and tail of Jean Teulère and Nicholas Touzaint’s horses.

“It was a great event but the security guard was just a bit lax,” explained Britain’s Nick Gauntlett who was competing at Pau.

A spokesperson for the competition confirmed the incident had occurred but did not know who had done it or why. “It happened during the night,” he said, adding that it was not due to a security problem. “The security guard just didn’t see.”

Thankfully the hair loss did not affect the performance of either horse. Jean Teulère and Espoir de la Mare Ecoli won the CCI three-star while Nicolas Touzaint and Kopervik Corubert finished second in the CIC two-star.
