Richard Meade, the former Olympic three-day event dual-gold medallist, is awaiting surgery to pin his shoulder after breaking it in a fall during the opening meet of the Duke of Beaufort’s hounds at the weekend.
Richard, victorious at the 1972 Munich Games, is the last British rider to have won Olympic gold in any sport.
Since retiring from competition, he has served on many of the sport’s governing bodies and only three days before his accident was awarded a life membership of the British Horse Trials Association for his services to eventing.
