Piggy French wins a car at Hartpury CIC*** on Jakata

  • Piggy French and her WEG ride Jakata won the CIC*** section C at the Mitsubishi Motors-sponsored Hartpury Horse Trials to take home £1,500 in prize-money, plus a new Mitsubishi ASX3 Crossover car.

A delighted Piggy said: “Because we’ve not done anything since finishing third at Bramham, I know there have been a lot of people who felt selecting us [for WEG] was a wrong decision, but I hope our performance this weekend has shown what a class horse he is.”

Piggy had been in third place after dressage and showjumping behind joint-leaders Bill Levett, riding One Two Many NJ, and Laura Collett, with Ginger May Killinghurst. A fast clear cross-country round secured her the win, ahead of Andrew Nicholson riding Avebury. Emily Llewellyn took third place with Pardon Me II.

Find out who lodged an objection with the stewards, and why Piggy’s win wasn’t confirmed until nearly 7pm on Sunday evening, plus a full report on all the acton from Hartpury, in Thursday’s Horse & Hound.

Don’t miss Piggy French sharing her thoughts on this year’s Burghley cross-country course in H&H’s Burghley preview, on sale Thursday 26 August.
