Paul Tapner wins Badminton Horse Trials 2010

  • The rain was unable to dampen the enthusiasm of Paul Tapner when he followed yesterday’s excellent cross-country round with a clear round in the show jumping on Inonothing to lift the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials 2010 title.

Paul entered the arena with one fence in hand, after Mary King, laying second coming into the final phase, had the last fence in the treble down on a very keen Imperial Cavalier to drop to fourth.

“This means everything; every second of this year has been focused on this moment,” said a delighted Paul after winning his first Badminton title.

Germany’s Andreas Dibowski produced a classy clear round on Euroridings Butts Leon to pull himself up from fifth after cross-country to finish in second place.

Spring Along belied his 17 years to produce his best Badminton result to date for Daisy Berkeley (nee Dick), finishing third with one of 14 fault-free rounds in the final phase.

Caroline Powell and Lenamore, another 17-year old gelding, played the fool on his way into the arena, taking exception to the arena party, but went on to produce a clear round to finish on 51.4 for fifth place.

James Robinson and Comanche had the worst of the conditions when the heavens opened as he entered the arena. This experienced pair battled through the rain, but when Comanche booted out the planks he dropped from fourth place after cross-country to finish in sixth.
