New rides for top eventers

  • Caroline Pratt has taken on the ride on Call Again Cavalier, who was produced from novice to four-star level by Vicky Brake. Last year Vicky and the 12-year-old by Cavalier Royale finished 21st at Burghley.

Eddie Davies, a director of Bolton Wanderers Football Club and owner of Billy Twomey’s show jumpers Anastasia and Luidam, purchased Call Again Cavalier for Caroline to ride, increasing her string for 2004 to 13.

Caroline says: “Vicky has done a fantastic job with him. I know how long it takes to produce a horse from scratch.”

  • Meanwhile, Chris King’s pictured ride Sir Lancelot VI, winner of the Osberton CIC, has been taken on by Polly Stockton.

Owned by David and Jane Tolley, the gelding was collected by Polly on her way back from Pau last year, and he brings her tally of advanced horses to six. Sir Lancelot, who was ninth at Boekelo in 2002, will be aimed at the three-star CIC.

  • What A Performance, owned by Sir William and Lady Aldous, will be ridden this season by Piggy French. Previously competed by Chris Hunnable, the 11-year-old gelding moved to Piggy’s Norfolk base in December. Piggy also rides Noble Performance for Sir William and is hoping to take What A Performance to Badminton.
