Four changes to Burghley Horse Trials cross-country course

  • Mark Phillips has announced four changes to his cross-country course, which will be tackled today at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials, due to the wet weather.

    The changes are:

    • The Land Rover Leaf Pit (fence 4): C element (used on the long route) has been removed
    • The Hunting Hedge (fence 10): fence removed — riders canter through a gap in the hedge
    • The Land Rover Dairy Farm (fence 17): A element removed — riders jump B and C elements only (on either right hand or left hand options)
    • Capability’s Classic (fence 22): back rail removed from B element

Sixty-seven horses are expected to start on the cross-country today, with Louise Skelton, the pathfinder on Bit Of A Barney, setting off at 11am. Heidi Woodhead has withdrawn her ride The Biz, number 21.

Dressage leader Ruth Edge (Mr Dumbledore) is due to start at 1.16pm.
