Eventing embraces the future

  • International riders, trainers, judges and breeders will be sharing their knowledge at the first Spiller Response Open Eventing Forum at Addington, Bucks, on 22 January 2004.

Based on a similar premise to the highly successful annual Global Dressage Forum, which was set up in 2001, the organisers aim to promote open discussion between everyone involved in the sport, from vets and course builders to owners and support teams, to the benefit of eventing’s future development.

“This year’s forum focuses on training, but it could be taken in a different direction each year,” says Olympic trainer John Bowen, who is behind the event alongside FEI eventing official Jean Mitchell.

The forum will compare different training and riding techniques as well as highlighting the physical effects of different training systems and discussing the most desirable qualities and traits for the modern event horse.

Sessions will focus on flatwork and dressage, plus an opportunity to discusss fitness with a panel of experts, as well as training methods for show jumping, steeplechase and cross-country.

Contributors expected to attend the event include Yogi Breisner, Gill Watson, Dr David Marlin, Chistoph Hess and Lucinda Green.

Tickets cost £40 per person. For more details or to book tickets visit: www.openeventingforum.com or contact Emma Hunter (tel: 01767 651664).
