Andrew Hoy to face FEI tribunal over ‘spiked’ boots allegation

  • AUSTRALIAN event rider Andrew Hoy will face a disciplinary hearing of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) with Dutch rider Madeleine Brugman, whom he trains.

Riders and stewards allege that Ms Brugman rode Sundancer 6 at Barroca d’Alva CCI*** in Portugal (8-12 March) in illegal spiked boots (news, 20 March).

Ms Brugman and Mr Hoy have been called to an FEI tribunal on Thursday (22 May) to investigate the alleged abuse of the horse.

FEI spokesman Malina Gueorguiev said: “Witnesses are saying they saw them both putting the boots on and taking them off the horse. We now have to establish whether abuse took place.”

Ms Brugman has denied the charges, saying the boots were planted in her bag and Mr Hoy told H&H that he did not condone the use of irregular boots.
