Top riders nominated to attend Olympia Horse Show

  • Visitors to the London International Horse Show at Olympia (15-21 December) can look forward to watching Britain’s best go head-to-head with some of the world’s top riders.

All eyes will be on Edward Gal and Moorlands Totilas in the FEI World Cup Dressage qualifier, supported by Horse & Hound, to see if they can break another world record.

Competing against the wonder horse are expected to be competitors from six nations, including the Netherlands’ European gold and silver medallist Adelinde Cornelissen and Britain’s European bronze medallist Laura Bechtolsheimer. Other British riders nominated to attend include Richard Davison, Fiona Bigwood, Steph Croxford, Carl Hester, Judy Harvey and Lizzie Murray.

Twenty riders will contest the dressage grand prix on Tuesday 15 December with the top 15 going forwards to the kur on Wednesday 16 December.

Show jumping gets underway on Thursday with 60 riders from 17 nations listed in the nominated entries. The Whitaker family will be leading the British contingent, with John, Michael, Ellen and Robert Whitaker all expected to attend. Other British riders to look out for include Ben Maher, Tim Stockdale, Peter Charles, Nick Skelton and Geoff Billington.

The overseas competition looks set to include Australia’s Edwina Alexander, Belgium’s Jos Lansink, Ireland’s Billy Twomey, Sweden’s Malin Baryard-Johnsson and Albert Zoer from the Netherlands. Germany has a 10-strong representation including Christian Ahlmann, Toni Hassmann and Franke Sloothaak, so competition is bound to be fierce.

Tickets for Olympia are selling fast with 90% of tickets sold for 8 of the 12 performances. Prompt booking is recommended to ensure you don’t miss out, so call the box office on 0871 230 5580 or book online at www.olympiahorseshow.com
