BD membership tops 10,000

  • British Dressage is celebrating breaking the 10,000 member barrier, with the organisation’s total membership now standing at 10,007.

The lucky 10,000th member is 22 year old Samantha Parsons from Wittering in Cambridgeshire. Samantha and a friend will enjoy a luxury day out at the Mercedez Benz National Dressage Championships in September, where BD chairman Desi Dillingham will present Samantha with a special embroidered rug.

David Holmes, BD chief executive, told Horse & Hound Online: “I think this really indicates to all of us at BD that we are doing it right, and that goes for everybody from office staff to the regional committees.

“As the national governing body that is part of our responsibility, and we hope to continue doing what we can to increase participation in the sport for the future.”

Since its foundation in 1998 British Dressage has seen its membership grow at a rate of 5-10% per year. Registered horses are currently standing at more than 8,100 and the societies in responsible for 21,500 days of affiliated dressage competition each year.
