New home for driving championships

  • The British Horse Driving Trials Association (BHDTA) national championships are moving from Windsor to Ashfields Carriage and Polo Club at Great Canfield, Essex.

BHDTA chairman Jock McFarlane said the event had been “financially unsustainable” in recent years.

The move is for 2013 only, Mr McFarlane said in a statement, adding that Ashfields manager Wilf Bowman-Ripley would personally bear the financial risk of the competition.

Ashfields, on 500 acres, is a BHDTA national and affiliated club competition venue, with facilities for around 80 competitors and horses at each event.

The championships will take place in September.
