Harry Meade
Harry Meade is a successful British event rider who is based in Gloucestershire and is particularly well known for his smooth, stylish cross-country riding. A world team silver medallist, he has been a columnist for H&H since 2015.
Harry first made his mark at four-star level riding Midnight Dazzler, with whom he finished in the top 25 at Badminton four times, his best result being 10th in 2009. The pair were also in the top 20 at Burghley three times, finishing eighth in 2007.
In August 2013, Harry broke both his elbows in a serious cross-country fall. He made an incredible comeback to finish third at Badminton in 2014 riding Wild Lone. The pair were selected as reserves for the British squad for the World Equestrian Games in Caen, France, that autumn. They received the call-up to compete, but sadly Wild Lone collapsed and died after his clear cross-country round.
In 2018, Harry was long-listed for the British squad for the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, USA with the grey Away Cruising. That September, he secured his best four-star result since Badminton 2014 when he piloted Away Cruising to sixth place at Burghley.
Harry’s father Richard Meade won Badminton twice, in 1970 on The Poacher and in 1982 on Speculator III. He was a team gold medallist at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico riding Cornishman and a team and individual gold medallist at the 1972 Olympics in Munich riding Lauriston.
