Thirty-one year-old Janique von Kanel bought her first pony at the age of 10 with the proceeds from selling her home-made fudge! By the age of 15 she had travelled to Germany to take up a four-year apprenticeship (equivalent to the AI).
“The discipline was very strict and if you make a mistake riding you had to run around the indoor school – I did a lot of running for three years,” says Janique.
She followed this with five years working for Jon Evans as a working pupil where whe took her horse to three-star level.
She now works for Lockinge Stud, where she looked after Gold Mill for Vicky Koss and broke-in Native Charm, a successful National Hunt mare. “I am extremely lucky to be able to do a job I absolutely love,” says Janique.
